Why Voting Matters: Four Words That Define What I Stand For
Share
Passion: Travel. Politics: Freedom. Race: Human. Religion: Love.
Four simple statements. One powerful message.
Recently, I stood outside the Franklin County Board of Elections in Columbus, Ohio, after exercising one of the most important rights we have as American citizens: the right to vote.
And I wore a sweatshirt that says exactly what I believe.
Not because I wanted to start an argument.
Not because I wanted to tell anyone how to think.
But because I believe our differences should never erase our shared humanity.
Your Voice. Your Vote. Your Future.
Voting is bigger than any one election, candidate, or political party.
It's about having a voice in decisions that shape our communities, our families, our freedoms, and the generations coming behind us.
As a Black woman, I don't take that right lightly.
I think about the people who marched, organized, sacrificed, and fought to ensure that voices like mine could be heard.
I think about the generations who were denied a seat at the table.
And I think about the responsibility we have to protect the rights so many worked to secure.
Voting isn't just about the world we live in today. It's about the world we're helping create tomorrow.
Four Statements. One Message.
PASSION: TRAVEL
Travel has taken me beyond familiar surroundings and introduced me to different cultures, traditions, and ways of life. It has taught me that the world is much bigger than my own perspective.
POLITICS: FREEDOM
Freedom means having the opportunity to think independently, express ourselves, participate in democracy, and live with dignity. We may disagree, but our voices still matter.
RACE: HUMAN
Our histories, cultures, and identities deserve recognition and respect. Yet beneath our differences, we share something fundamental: our humanity.
RELIGION: LOVE
Whatever our beliefs, I believe compassion, kindness, and love should guide how we treat one another.
More Than a Sweatshirt
When I created this design for Travel Journeys Apparel, I wanted something that reflected my values without requiring a lengthy explanation.
A reminder that we can embrace different cultures, respect different perspectives, and still find common ground.
Because the world doesn't need more division.
It needs more understanding.
And sometimes, a simple statement on a sweatshirt can spark a conversation worth having.

And remember: whether it's a local election or a national one, your voice deserves to be heard.
Vote with purpose. Travel with curiosity. Lead with love.
